The library is the only of its kind in Saint-Petersburg, containing periodical journals on contemporary art from the USA, central, eastern and western European countries, exhibition catalogues, art history publications, slides and video cassettes. A separate section contains publications of the «New technologies in contemporary art» program. The library collection also includes a large number of music disks.
The library has an electronic catalogue program and work has begun on compiling a database of the collection.
The library takes part in the EIFL Direct project (Electronic Information For Libraries). As part of this program large agencies distributing electronic publications, offer access to world scientific and information periodicals in electronic format. These are full-text versions of journals, newspapers and news reports as well as browsing and full-text reference books.
Access to the database is available online via the Internet in the PRO ARTE Institute library.
As a result of excellent contacts with other libraries it is possible to receive information in the PRO ARTE Institute on the collections of other libraries in St. Petersburg.
The library has been functioning as a reading room (no lending) since September 2000.
