New technologies in contemporary art (Media art studies)

The PRO ARTE Institute offers those with an interest in the world of new technologies and media art a chance to take part in a program entitled «The new technologies in contemporary art». Participants will have the opportunity to reach an understanding of the aesthetic potential of new art forms, to develop their own personal attitudes to new media, and to master the basic principles of working with these media.
The program organizers pursue the following goals:
- to promote understanding of media culture (through: a course of lectures and seminars on the history of media art; practical seminars for artists; exhibitions of media art; publishing projects).
- to provide equipment and facilities (i.e. a multimedia laboratory) for implementation of media-art projects;
- to create a pool of information (through a program to build up the PRO ARTE Institute library's section on media-art);
- to create collections of media art on CD and video.
The PRO ARTE Institute's collaborators on «The Art of New Technologies» are: FRAME-Foundation (Helsinki, Finland), The Centre for Art and Media Technologies (Zentrum fur Kunst und Mideintechnologie; Karlsruhe, Germany); KIASMA (Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, Finland). Support for the program is provided by The Goethe Institute, St Petersburg (German Cultural Centre), The Institute of Finland in St Petersburg, the St Petersburg representative office of the Ministers of The Council of Northern Countries and others.
